Back from Amboseli NP and Maasai Mara, Kenya

Elephants in the Amboseli NP

I have spent a great time on a Safari from August 29 to Sept 11 with Federico Veronesi as guide and organizer. He his an enthusiastic guide and encouraging photographer in search of an outstanding composition. He passes his knowledge to the clients. And he drives the jeep by his own which gives great opportunities. His book Light and Dust is an outstanding photography book on his work in Africa and the text is worthwhile to read as well.

Together with a colleague we started the trip in the Amboseli NP and I was happy to see big hardes of elephants walking majestically and almost silently on the dust of the dry planes.Waterfowl in the marshes provides a welcome photo opportunity and of course: the rare view on the Kilimandjaro as one of the iconic mountains on our globe, is more than rewarding.

Then we went via Nairobi to the Maasai Mara. I can recommend to fly in, as the roads are too bad. I love the landscape of the Mara, the great sunsets and the fresh mornings, and the rich wildlife there and although we had great crossings of the Mara river by wildebeests and an abondance of fantastic photo opportunities the parc- for my taste - is too crowded now by tourists of all kind (and education...). With all the side effects. The sentinel camp was gorgeous and it is in a more remote area of the parc. So there are less tourists, but still, too many.

Have a look to the complete gallery on my site.
