Kushiro: Akan International Crane Centre

The Crane Centre is a nice spot to take pictures of the Japanese cranes. There are many photographers outside, but there is enough space to put up the tripod. Inside the centre it is cosy and warm, good Japanese fast food, a toilet, etc. A good place to warm up the frozen feet and hands. Outside there was good fresh snow, a strong wind was blowing the snow over the plain. 2 honorable mentions at the International Photo Competition Festival Photolorraine Nature 2017

It was not a big competition as there were only 995 photos by 117 candidates submitted. In the mammal category 6 photos were ranked, 2 of them were mine. I am happy that the jury considered them as good pictures as I love both of these shots. Not clear however, what they are doing with the non-winner pictures. Let's go to the North

What has impressed me on the boat rides leaving Rausu (Hokkaido) and heading into the bay or street of Kunashirskiy at 44 degree north was this unique light. So I have put Svalbard on my destination list in 2018, at the end of the summer, when the midnight sun gives place to sunrises and sunset. #Japan #photography #landscape #blog #sunrise #Hokkaido #Rausu

Working on over 22000 pictures

Over 22000 times I have pressed the shutter, by far not the record of the group. A few will be left on the hard drives. Here 2 of them, the surprising beauty of the northern sea #Nature #Hokkaido #photography
